Unitas – Stoke on Trent

Newford Estate Phase 1
Location: Stoke on Trent
Client: Faithful and Gould / Unitas
Funding: SHDF/ Client funded

VOR group were commissioned to carry out full PAS2035 services on 74 terraced and semi-detached properties, many with adjoining private properties, on the Newford Estate in Stoke on Trent.

VOR carried out:

  • Archetype assessments
  • Retrofit assessments
  • Energy modelling retrofit
  • Coordination retrofit design
  • Planning application and regulatory consents
  • Control moisture modelling
  • Thermal bridge modelling

VOR were able to exceed the targets set and cut costs with the inclusion of cavity wall insulation to the party walls overcoming the need for party wall agreements and works to private properties.

Process

Full PAS2035 services were provided by VOR. After completion of the archetype study, retrofit assessments were carried out, along with measured building surveys enable the energy modelling and IOE / MTP to be completed for each archetype.

The design phase was able to commence, and programme maintained whilst the remainder of assessments were carried out in parallel, saving time and resource.

Design, including planning submission, consisted of full tender drawings (elevations, plans, ventilation, section details), critical junctions, constraints plans, specification, energy modelling and thermal bridge calculations. VOR collaborated with the EWI manufacturer to overcome potential issues and ensure design was robust.

“I am a project lead on the SHDF project. This project has seen the introduction of the PAS2035 standard. This, to the uninitiated can be a daunting prospect. With the utilisation of VOR’s expertise we have experienced a highly professional, knowledgeable yet straight forward approach to what could have been a very disorientating process. From supply chain engagement through to energy efficiency modelling. Not to say we haven’t experienced some challenges regarding the design elements, however VOR have been there every step of the way. They offered speedy solutions to aid in the progression of the project. I look forward to working with VOR during the delivery phase of the project. If you are looking to apply for SHDF funding on one of your schemes, VOR are an essential addition to your tool kit.”
