The North Taunton Archetype Study provide a few challenges especially when considering the aesthetics of the building.
Project Overview
Installation of External Wall Insulation (EWI) would potentially impact the look of these traditional buildings and there were multiple constrains to the façade which made EWI a difficult install.
With the use of EWI, fenestration upgrades, improved air tightness and MEV replacing IEV, we were able to design the dwellings to achieve an EPC score of C with a heat demand of less that 65kWh/m2/year on average. This has significantly reduced the works required to meet NET zero, where phase 2 and 3 of the retrofit will include a 3kW Solar PV array, and then Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery (MVHR), floor insulation, Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) and further improved air tightness.
VOR produced a clear pathway to Net Zero for these archetypes which include a Medium-Term Plan that allows the client to understand their buildings stock requirements for achieving PAS2035 and Net Zero.
