Welcoming Louis Parry-Jones, Retrofit Designer, to VOR

We’re pleased to welcome Louis Parry-Jones to the VOR team as a Retrofit Designer, bringing with him a strong foundation in architecture, sustainability and hands-on design experience.

Louis began his architectural training at UWE, studying on the dual-accredited BA Architecture and Planning course, before gaining industry experience as a Part 1 Architectural Assistant in Bath. Seeking to focus on more sustainable and socially impactful work, he went on to complete a Master’s in Sustainable Architecture at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) in mid-Wales. This unique course equipped him with a deep understanding of building physics, construction and environmental design.

Throughout his journey, Louis has combined academic learning with practical experience, contributing to several live build projects. Notably, he worked with the National Gallery and artist Jeremy Deller to deliver a timber and willow stage structure in Trafalgar Square, created to host performances as part of the Gallery’s 200th anniversary celebrations. These experiences have helped shape his approach, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.

With a clear passion for low-carbon design and the social value of retrofit, Louis was drawn to VOR’s work supporting large-scale programmes that deliver real impact for communities.

He is especially interested in the challenge retrofit presents, integrating modern technologies into existing buildings while balancing performance, conservation and occupant comfort. With the UK’s housing stock among the least energy efficient in Europe, Louis sees both the scale of the challenge and the opportunity to deliver meaningful change, particularly through developing scalable solutions for common housing typologies.

At VOR, Louis is looking forward to contributing to social housing projects, particularly in and around Bristol, where retrofit can deliver significant social and environmental value. He is also keen to explore how standardised approaches and guidance can support the delivery of retrofit at scale across the UK.

Outside of work, Louis has a passion for music and plays bass in a local band, as well as guitar and mandolin. He enjoys cycling and hiking, and is a member of a design and build collective, CLAASH, who are currently developing a hand-built stage for UK festivals.

We’re excited to have Louis on board and look forward to the contribution he will make to the team.
